Planting & Care

1. Planting: First, choose an area with full sun for your Bradford Pear Tree to thrive. This means about 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day – and any soil type will suffice, provided it’s well-draining. To plant your Bradford Pear, dig a hole deep enough to cover its root ball. After placing your plant, tamp down the soil while backfilling to avoid air pockets. Finally, water your Bradford Pear to ensure the roots are settled.

2. Watering: Once it’s established, it’s tolerant to drought, but a consistent watering schedule is important the first few growing seasons. To test when and how much to water your Bradford, check the top 2 to 3 inches of soil – if it’s dry, it’s time to water until the soil is moist but not oversaturated.

3. Fertilizing: Unless you notice slower growth, fertilizer for your Bradford should not be necessary. If you do fertilize, do so with a well-balanced blend before new growth begins in the spring.
